SignPost [a portable user-driven database]

>Theme<

Democratization of civic knowledge has been made available by means of networked technologies. Particularly this type of social media, plays a huge part in disseminating and producing new ideas in regard to public spaces. “Openness” or externalizing previously held private knowledge is the mantra of many grass rooted communities, fostering dialogue at a citizen level. Greater access to a wider scope of information results in a higher level of engagement and participation in matters that affect people and their communities.

SignPost is an informative interactive system that allows users to participate in everyday issues concerning outdoor signage. The system provides the ability to view, comment, and rate various commercial advertisements and signs, uniting citizens as they work together to create an informative database of either controversial or successful outdoor signage.

SignPost is not only a system where users can come together to better the public spaces around them, but it can also be used as an educational tool to emphasize the effects of outdoor signage on any given society as a whole.

Note: Connect with an Apple iPhone or iPod Touch to experience the system while mobile.
